Year composed: 2011
Instrumentation: piano solo
Duration (approx.): 6′
NOTES:
MEZZONATA is a play on a couple pieces of musical terminology. First is “sonata” which is a complex classical form used by many of the great masters over the centuries. The other is “mezzo” meaning semi. Both these words are used to convey the fact that the piece is in an altered version of sonata form; a “semi-sonata.”
First premiered by Matthew Grossman at the Portland Piano Club’s inaugural concert “American Originals,” 2011.
