I’ve been selected as a finalist in this year’s New Ideas in Music Composition Competition!
I’ll be doing a series of posts about the progress of my fifth string quartet, Outside The Eyes, for the competition’s website. This piece has been one of the biggest compositional challenges I’ve set forward for myself, and I’m very excited to be working with the Third Angle New Music Ensemble.
In one night, I saw them perform both George Crumb’s Black Angels, and Tan Dun’s Ghost Opera, two pieces I’ve always wanted to hear live. I couldn’t believe my ears. Each piece is an epic in their own right, and their performance of both was such an incredible experience. One of the best concerts I’ve been to in a long, long time.
The premiere is March 21st, and will be in the basement recital hall of Lincoln Hall at PSU.
