NEW COMPOSITION: CATALYST, for mixed Septet

I’ve reached the double bar on a piece I began about a year and a half ago: Catalyst, for mixed septet.

Scored for flute, clarinet in A, (doubling B-flat and E-flat), violin, viola, cello, percussion*, and piano, it clocks in at around 20 minutes and is one of the larger pieces I’ve written recently.

* – 1 player. Percussion instruments used: vibes, crotales, snare drum, bass drum, 2 toms, 3 suspended cymbals, and 3 suspended triangles

There are three movements in all:

i. – tuning games/emergence [ca.5′]

ii. – through a yellow sky [ca. 12′]

iii. – interrobang [ca.3′]

I’m very excited about this piece. I think it has a lot to offer, and I can’t wait to start sending it out to competitions.
