Celestial Vistas is constructed out of a series of displaced palindromes. Each palindrome is cut in half at its central turning point and the retrograde (or “mirror”) halves appear later in the piece, rather than immediately afterwards (as would normally be the case).

For example, instead of structuring it as a literal palindrome (ABCDD’C’B’A’), the mirror ( ‘ ) sections appear in the order they were originally introduced (ABCDA’B’C’D’).
